Countdown to M day/ running music.

There's not much to tell you. Running, running kickboxing, not going out drinking, running. It will remain thus until I finish that blasted race. Running from Dun Laoghaire today. It's mighty windy, so I'll be doing well not to get blown all over the place. I also need new music on the iPod, I've heard everything I have eleventy million times now and I'm sick of it all. In fact I need new running music full stop.
So far I've got

Siouxie & The Banshees- Cities in Dust
Hysteria- Muse
Starlight- Muse
Sober -Tool
Sex on Fire- Kings of Leon

And that's bloody it. And that ain't going to get me far. Anyone with some good suggestions? It would be much appreciated.

Not that I'm up to anything very energetic at the moment, but here are some suggestions that would be perfect for getting those knees up. Also, did you ask this before? Am having major deja vu, so apologies if I'm repeating myself.

Anything by Kraftwerk - best thing you can get is the double live album Minimum Maximum, it has everything on it and will keep you going for a couple of hours.

LCD Soundsystem's 'Get Innocuous' of 'Losing My Edge'

Benni Benassi - 'Satisfaction' - totally tacky house track, but it'll get you marching.

Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love', those crazy 70s synths would get anyone moving.

Best of luck with the big M.

Oh, I did ask before, but now I'm fed up of those tunes. I can only listen to stuff for so long. Eight months seems to be my limit.

Pah! I'm getting lazier as the days get shorter. Going into winter mode, I guess, and only working out on the weekends. So today it'll be as much cardio as I can stand, then some weights and lunges. Tomorrow I'll do the yoga stretches, cardio and ab stuff. Unless I manage to get up in the dark sometime this coming week, the 1.5 mile daily walk will have to do.

Lately I've been popping Green Day's "American Idiot" in the CD player for my cardio. Seems to do the job.

Oh, good choice Andraste, it has that zippy fizz needed to get over a tired hump.
It really is much harder to motivate in winter. I was being blown along the canal on the way home to day and even though I was stuck with Eels, 'Secret smile' looping through my head, my other though was 'my this is very bloody unpleasant, how many more kilometres left? Oh 4, gah.'

The Chieftains. If you can get a compilation of the reels and marches, you just can't keep up with them.(ignore the slow airs).
btw, what distance today?

Certain Pixies songs would work well, I'd recommend Velouria in particular for exercising.

chemical brothers - Block rockin' Beats and Setting Sun.

Ash - Lose Control. One for starting off with, I'd say.

Springsteen - Thunder Road. Great when you're starting to tire.

and there's probably fecking heaps more but it'd get boring if I went on. Mind you , 18k sounds way too much like hard work to me, I'd much sooner just belt off a fairly quick 2 or 3k and leave it at that, so you might want tunes with a different pace to what i'm recommending.

This is my current running list:

The Prodigy - 'Breathe', 'Hot Ride', 'Voodoo People'

Chemical Brothers - 'Hey Boy Hey Girl'

Kings of Leon - 'Molly's Chambers', 'Red Morning Light'

Placebo - 'Pure Morning'

Happy Mondays - 'Step on'

Dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip - 'The Beat that my Heart Skipped' - great beat

Eric Prydz - 'Call on me' - cheesy as hell but great for exercise!

Survivor - 'Eye of the tiger'

Good luck with marathon!

I too suffer from music burnout and need fresh doses.

A recent workout fav has been the soundtrack for the film "21". Starring Ashton Kutcher as part of a group of college kids who work out a system for counting cards playing blackjack in Las Vegas.

An OK movie, the music surprised me with a great mix of songs from a lot of people I've never heard of but some I have including LCD Soundsystem, Peter Bjorn & John, Rhianna and a brilliant Rolling Stones remix... classic rock gone all techno. Love it.

My never fail songs to kick things into high gear...

Chemical Brothers - Galvanize

Alex Smoke - Prima Materia (Edit)

Spoon - Don't You Evah

Midnight Oil - Power and the Passion

Wall Of Voodoo - Ring of Fire

Oh Jive Talking!! Brilliant, and thank you. Some serious boogie woogie there.

Sheepie, how can you manage without it? Especially on the long runs?

Well, when I started I was running with friends so never really needed one until I went out on my own - I dont actually find it all that boring without the music, but def prefer to have a bit of entertainment.

I don't mind being music less up to 15k, after that I need a bit of bounce, or else I get some stupid song stuck in my head on an endless loop, like Secret Smile on Saturday. Although not the worst song, nevertheless tedious after twenty minutes of humming the same bloody verse.

Hey FMC! Hope all's good with you! I wrote about my workout music here; http://blog.teamgearedup.com/2008/03/workout-sounds-tell-us-yours.html

I listen to the Pixies before every race to get the aggression going!!!! Debaser and Gouge Away are my favourites, the heart rate goes through the roof!! Ha ha! Happy training!

I'm a big believer in adding a dollop of cheese to a playlist for the longer runs. Try "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey as you hit the last mile or two. The endorphins are flowing but you are knackered. Imagine Olympic Stadium is in your sight... It can knock 30 seconds of your minute mile pace. We are The Waiting by Green Day has a similar effect.

Tool??? Would never have figure you for a Tool gal! If tis hard stuff ya like, you can't go wrong with Rage Against The Machine. Guerilla Radio not only makes you want to start a riot but has the side effect of increased pace!

I have one or two John!( I have been know to sing 'Fuck you I won't do what you tell me!!! as I poodle along) But not GR, so many thanks.
Aisling, I can just picture you teeth bared, fists clenched Pixies blaring.

I meant to suggest this yesterday... The bombastic stuff only works for me in the last bit. I much prefer for the middle stretches when I need a good pace rather than all-out running something quieter but intense with good momentum.

See: Jose Gonzalez, "Remain," "Lovestain," "Stay in the Shade," and "Heartbeats."
Also: Postal Service, "We Will Become Silhouettes,"
Radiohead "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi,"
Fleet Foxes, "White Winter Hymnal"

And one I never tried out but next time I go for a run I'm putting it on at the beginning: My Morning Jacket, "I'm Amazed."

I know what you man Grims, I usually tone it right down in the middle and turned the pod off for good stretches last year. But towards the end you need a spike in the blood stream, so to speak.
I haven't heard of I'm Amazed, but google is my friend, thank you kindly.

This is a bit late, I'm afraid, but when I'm on the treadmill I like Metallica, or PM Dawn, depending on my mood. Personally, I'd go with Metallica for a long run, and cool down with PM Dawn. As for which songs, anything at all from Metallica's newest album is a winner. I'm thoroughly impressed.

Snap! I have Frantic, St Anger and Shoot Me Again on the play list. I haven't heard much of the new album, I must rectify that immediately.
Thanks Darling!
