A chair of one's own.

I'm thinking the chair with the books built in makes a kind of sense, but the truth is I like to read while sprawled. I also have a long held dream of owning the 1956 Eames chair and matching ottoman. (not red one)

Now that dream seems highly unlikely unless I suddenly earn a whole lot more money that doesn't have 'mortgage' 'insurance' 'Puddy' or 'must fix garage roof' titles attached to it, but a gal can dream right? Some people spend their dough on cars and holidays, well I want that chair and poof. I would put a fifties standard reading lamp behind it with a long chain and there I would sprawl, contentedly, nose buried in a book. If I could add in a roaring log fire to the mix and maybe a rum and coke then that would be bliss.
Bliss I tell you.

Is there anything you'd really like to have? An indulgence that you can ill afford but like to day dream about?

Buy one on e-bay pal. I could do with a wheelchair today as my legs are hanging off. I would like Steinway but mostly I would like a ticket to Burma to protest and to show a sign of solidarity for the monks.

You'd need a heck of a lot of room for a Steinway, but seeing as this is indulgent wants and not practical wants I concur.

It would look delightful in the bay window of the mansion I plan to buy when I marry a millionaire. Can you play?

Me too me too. On both the Steinway and the Eames. I was wandering around my parents in law's attack and I found 2 Eames (or very good lookalikes).. My pappy in law can't remember if they were real or replicas, and I didn't have the time to check. But he said I could have 'em. Next time I am back East I need to check it out and figure out of they are real or not.

Nonny, my dream house has a big room with a massive glass window and a Steinway baby grand for me to write songs at. Dream on huh...

I played Stings Steinway once. In another lifetime I played music in Renvyle House Hotel in Connemara. Sting being friendly with the owner, he had left it to them when he moved away, (he used to live thereabouts). At least thats what the owner told me!

Since both my guitars have been in such drastic need of repair for 20 years now, and I can't be arsed to get them fixed or replaced, this is the first thing that came to mind:

I would love a 1952 Fender Telecaster and a sweet amp to play it through.

And a new drum kit. I'm not greedy, all I need is a bass drum, snare, hi-hat, crash cymbal, and one floor tom. Okay, I guess I am being greedy...

Well, as long as I AM being greedy, I'll take a nice working acoustic guitar to faff about with while I'm watching TV.

Oh, and a great deal more talent than I actually have to play them all.

Andraste try a Variax. I own one and wrote about it over at my place. it digitally models classic guitars, including a 68, and 69 telecaster and 22 others. I wrote about it over at my place. http://www.johnmcdermott.net/2007/03/rockin-on-paddy-day.html

Got to play Stings peenano cool. John don't suppose you are a millionaire?. Writing songs whilst watching the world go by or while is lashes rain against the window big open fire behind you. Bliss.

Andreste my Daddy has a Fender Telecaster it’s an 82 though, I think. I’d prefer a Gibson myself.

I want a new bathroom. I don't even care much what it looks like, as long as it has a solid floor and matching fixtures.
Also, can I have new hardwood flooring downstairs? And a contractor who will rehab all the windows in our house for free? And a pile of money to pay for having the house repainted?
Next time someone hears me rave about how awesome it is to live in a 100-year-old farmhouse, please shoot me.

I want a motorbike. As big as one as I can swing my leg over. One that won't break down every three kilometres.

My ex played the piano in Renvyle for a summer years and years ago, I have many fond memories of getting trashed on free Black Russians in the residents bar...

Well, with your mortgage nearly paid off surely you can treat yourself.

We'll manage without you. Go for it.

That's a beautiful chair, FMC. You have good taste.

I have been stuck with this dining room table that someone in Mr. M's family owned in the 20s. It is narrow, small, and wobbly. You can't cross your legs under the table. Hate it.
I would love a new table and set of chairs.

You said it the other week. Pardon my memory.

Just saying that if you really want to go help Burmese monks there's no reason why you can't.

I want a butler.

Eh no I didn't I just said it was relatively small compared to the mental amounts of money people are forced to pay out these days, as I am sure is yours. Taken completely out of context you make it sound as if I was gloating and I wasn’t I don't have anything to gloat about, irrelevant anyway. As for Burma I have already had a Visa I don’t think I’d get another, would you like to see it Sir Twenty? I could scan it when I go home and e-mail it to you. Grant it I still won’t be as good as you Mr. Major.

Why would I want to see a visa for Burma?

Medbh, I do like classic furniture I must say, but it's just so expensive to get 'pieces' so the Eames wqill have to stay a dream for a while longer. ( someday someday)
My first home was decorated with side tables people didn't want, a flea bitten corner chair donated from a lovely lady, and a bed that sagged in the middle, making getting up or turning over quite the adventure. So nowadays I'm much more pernickety.
I have a really beautiful Italian leather couch, but the fucking cats have it destroyed from scratching it when I'm not looking.

I can also play about six chords on any guitar not including F which I can only play sometimes. Skillful I ain't. John I envy the pants off you for that one.

Caro! I didn't see you there, Black Russians! Oh my vile, I got barred from a pub once after an afternoon drinking those. I still can't look at one without feeling queasy.

The book chair may be practical but looks hideously uncomfortable. I'd settle for the one you chose. I'd like a round the house switch so I could adjust the sound, programme from room to room without having to carry a radio or what ever and a vacuum that plugs into a wall and all the dross is sucked up and out somewhere so I never see it or have to empty it. Does that make sense?
Oh and all the windows made draught proof without boring double glazing. And self clean windows.
Please:)

How hi-tec of you Pat. I'd also love a state of the art Bang and Olufson stereo sound system, but I think that's probably pushing my deam wallet a bit too far today.

Let's see... furniture-wise any old Eileen Gray thingamy would be nice. A double bass would be my instrument of choice. A refurbished old camper, ideally vw, for trips on the road. And a citroen ds. I have the Euromillions winning ticket for Friday (Euros130m) so it should be no problem. Oh, and about 800acres to plant trees on, that shouldn't break the (yes, sir... three bags full, sir) bank.

We had the same crap tables, I'm sure, FMC. We're slowly starting to get real furniture finally and lose the scraps from our student days.
We bought this couch last year right before we moved to Canada. We picked the sage one.

Nice. Looks so delightfully inviting.
I've got my beady eye on a four seater leather and suede number that I really REALLY REALLY want. But as the paramour quite rightly points out we may want to eat now and then over the coming two years.
Le sigh.

Twat. Wrong post. But seeing as I'm here (again) I'd like a personal restaurant in the conservatory. Cut out all the shopping, cooking, clearing. I imagine Michael Winner has one, which he'd probably notice if he ever opened his eyes.

I money were no object I'd LOVE a Tiffany sapphire and diamond 3-stone ring... they have the most incredible brilliant blue gems!!!

But considering the one I want runs about $25,000 US it's not likely I'll ever have one let alone feel comfortable with the idea of wearing something as expensive as a car on my hand... but I can dream!

I'd like a baby, a big hairy dog, and an invisibility cloak. As I can't have any of those I'll settle for one of those great American houses with a big veranda all around it with the usual rocking chair or the new iPhone.
